Veganism can be extremely beneficial to the mind, body, and spirit. When I started my journey four years ago, I was more concerned about my overall health, because I was going through some physical challenges with my body. I was the heaviest I've ever been, was diagnosed with hypertension, severely anemic and was tired all the time. I was unhealthy and miserable. I made changes for legitimate reasons. I later came to the realization that an animal's life is just as precious as my own life. Animals have personalities and live their lives accordingly just like humans. I made the choice to never eat anything that once possessed a life ever again. Here are a few things you should know when it comes to starting a Vegan journey.
VEGAN JUNK FOOD IS BAD FOR YOU IN THE SAME WAY AS ALL JUNK FOOD
Vegan junk food can be anything from chocolate chip cookies to a Vegan fried bean burger with fries. These foods should still be eaten in moderation. Some will try to have you believe that eating Vegan foods is so much better no matter what it is. This is true when it comes to saving an animal's life. Generally speaking, this just isn't true. Some Vegan foods can be even more processed than animal-based products. And let's not forget marketing and science is still used to help promote unhealthy products. So its so important to still use caution when purchasing foods. Read the labels & use aim for products with fewer ingredients as possible.
SOY PRODUCTS EFFECT THE HORMONES IN BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
Soy-based products here in North America are different from other soy in the world. Our soy products are created on a large scale like corn. It is genetically modified and isn't as beneficial as its advertised to be. Fermented soy has been beneficial in certain parts of Asia. Fermented soy has key health components that can be found in fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut to name a couple. In America, soy is used as a filler product. It has been used to fill anything from paint to creating a soy-based, meat-less chicken patty. It finds its way into our food supply, because it is cheap and versatile. But is this healthy for our fragile bodies? One of the main reasons I limit my soy intake is due to its effects on hormones which are detrimental to the female body. Dr. Josh Axe discusses the top 5 estrogen foods to avoid. It's linked to the amount of soy we consume. Watch it here.
TAKE THE RIGHT HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS
